NASA Pilots Lecture: Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy

Talks/Lectures, History/Science

Two of NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) pilots will describe what it's like to fly this one-of-a-kind aircraft. Liz Ruth and Ace Beall will talk about piloting the 747, which has been retrofitted with a massive telescope. The plane is the largest flying observatory in the world, according to NASA. SOFIA, the name of the plane and its telescope, is designed to observe the infrared universe, providing data that can't be picked up by any other telescope on the ground or in space.
