Hector Buitrago and Andrea Echeverri are the co-founders and creative core of Aterciopelados. The pair formed the band in the early '90s out of the ashes of the punk group Delia y los Aminoacidos. They had originally planned to call the new band Aterciopelada Flor de la Pasion (the Velvet Flower of Passion), which reflects their affection for kitsch. They eventually decided to shorten the name to Aterciopelados, which loosely translates to "the velvety ones." The Columbian national heroes are proficient in everything from punk to electro-lounge and jangly Latin folk rock.

Classical Dance

Sarah Council Dance Projects (SCDP) and PLEXUS|dance come together to present SHELTER, an evening of dance exploring displacement, boundaries and the concept of home. When boundaries are penetrated and borders crossed, or when home is lost all together, how do we adapt and settle? Where and how do we find meaning through displacement? The three works presented will examine the vulnerability of our relationship to home. The SHELTER program will include SCDPís Dislocate, the recipient of the NC Dance Festival/NC Dance Alliance 2016 New Works Award and their 2013 work, Staring at Stones. PLEXUS|dance will premiere Four Walls with special guest artist E.E. Balcos.

Brick + Mortar

"We are not for the faint of heart. Our brash, gritty, whip-smart sound foregoes guitar in favor of bass, drums, and electronic samples. At our shows, the audience is part of the band. That's what makes playing each show uniquely exciting and inspiring. We will give you 100 percent every time because we truly love what we do. Hopefully, you give us 100 percent back." From the band's Facebook page.
