Corporeal: Paintings by Mark Gleason

Art Show, Painting

Mark Gleason’s figurative paintings exist in a world of dramatic tension. His subjects are often shown when the moment of danger, or potential threat, is most evident. Through small strokes with the brush, fingertips, or a knife, objects come forward or recede, somehow congealing into sky, earth, and flesh. On view through Feb. 25.

Return to the Loire: Paintings by Marie-Thérèse Brown

Art Show

February 2-25, 2018; Reception: Feb. 9, 6-9 PM // The paintings in this show are from an exhibition I had in 2005 with my good friend Philippe Gandiol in the Loire Valley in France. When I was asked in January if I could get a show ready for February, I thought of these paintings stored in a closet and said yes. So here they are after 13 years. My husband Steve, Philippe and I travelled three times to the Loire Valley to paint and then to exhibit the paintings at the town hall gallery, a 17 th century restored building located in the park next to city hall. The show was titled Two California Painters Paint the Loire Valley. It was a beautiful time and our show was wonderful. I am happy to have this opportunity to share my Loire Valley paintings at the Pence Gallery. -Marie- Thérèse Brown, Artist Statement
