123rd Miners Picnic

Living History

"A picnic, a tradition and tons of fun since 1895!" Early Miners Picnics helped raise funds for miners' widows and orphans. Today it's a chance to celebrate our gold mining past - with Living History docents in vintage costumes, as they portray the colorful characters who made Empire Mine a resounding success. Bring your lunch, blankets and chairs, and picnic in the shady gardens - or purchase food, drinks and treats from popular local vendors. Enjoy non-stop fun with live music and entertainment, special children's activities, an old-fashioned cake walk and a silent auction. Be sure and catch the dramatic mine-rescue reenactment in the mine yard at high noon. Cheer the old-time rescue vehicles on as they race to save the injured miners. Hosted by Empire Mine Park Association (EMPA) to help support and maintain our treasured Park, it's an action-packed day for all ages - and everyone's invited (including well-behaved dogs on leashes).
