Sunday Matinee Classics: All the King's Men

Film, Politics

Based on Robert Penn Warren’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name, this 1949 Academy Award winning film tells of the political rise of an amoral outsider and the breakdown of moral order. Loosely based on the rise and fall of Governor Huey Long of Louisiana, 1928-1932, Broderick Crawford in an Academy Award winning performance plays Willie Stark, a fiery populist who becomes a ruthless politician, a demagogue relying on threats and insults who will sink to any level to win. A before and after commentary is included.
